La Alcaldía de Miami y su Alcalde Sr. Tomás Regalado, tomando en consideración la trayectoria demostrada por la Asociación para la Investigación y Difusión de la Historia naval de Cuba y la Organización de Veteranos de la Florida, ha decidido proclamar Oficialmente el día 16 de mayo, como "Día de los Veteranos norteamericanos y cubanos de la Guerra Anti-submarina/ Segunda Guerra Mundial". Dicha proclamación constituye
un altísimo honor y no tiene precedentes entre la comunidad de veteranos
cubanos. A partir de ahora y en adelante, nuestros veteranos tendrán una fecha
en la que se les honre y recuerde.Cuba tuvo una participación destacada en la lucha
contra las incursiones de los u-boats (submarinos) alemanes durante la Segunda
Guerra Mundial y fue el principal aliado de los Estados Unidos en la lucha
contra estas incursiones. La AIDHNC (Asociación para la Investigación y
Difusión de la Historia Naval de Cuba) continuará trabajando y consolidando sus
esfuerzos en la investigación, estudio, difusión, conservación y proteción de
la historia y patrimonio naval y marítimo de Cuba.

El día 16 de mayo 2015
tuvo lugar el acto de Homenaje a los Marinos cubanos y norteamericanos Veteranos
de la Guerra Anti-submarina librada en el Caribe, organizada por la Asociación para la Investigación y Difusión de la Historia Naval de Cuba y el Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad de Miami, para conmemorar el 72
aniversario del encuentro bélico escenificado entre el U-176 con el Caza
submarinos cubano CS-13 y el Army Forces Day. La celebración de la importante Ceremonia
tuvo lugar en el Teatro Manuel Artime de la Ciudad de Miami y a la misma
asistieron importantes personalidades. En el acto fueron entregados Diplomas de
Reconocimiento a los Veteranos que participaron en aquella contienda, así como
Diplomas Anclas de Bronce y de Plata que la Asociación para la Investigación
y Difusión de la Historia naval de Cuba entrega a Personalidades y
Organizaciones que se destacan en el estudio, investigación y difusión del
patrimonio naval. Entre los acreedores de dichas condecoraciones se encuentra
el historiador naval Eric Wiberg, las organizaciones Global Offshore Sailing
Team, Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club y el Museo Naval de Madrid entre otros.

Museum und Archiv, fallecido recientemente, recibió un Diploma post mortem por
su amplia trayectoria dedicada a la investigación.
Se vivieron momentos
realmente emotivos en la presentación de las banderas, el toque de silencio.
Los discursos pronunciados fueron igualmente emotivos, destacándose el
pronunciado por el co-fundador y Skiper de GOST (Global Offshore Sailing Team)

DEAR HONORABLE LADIES & GENTLEMEN
Just a couple days ago on May 8th the world commemorated the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
May 8, 1945 was an historic day. A day that ended a brutal war. A day
that ended the pain of many families all over our planet. A day that opened new
opportunities of freedom for people in the world. A DAY OF CHANGE.
Since that day, the world has continued to embrace freedom and cultural
exchange. We are looking forward to a future of continued growth for Cuba and
the United States as collaborators and friends supporting one another.
This is as it was in May of 1943 during the Second World War, when the epic
battle between the German U-Boat 176 and the Cuban Submarine Chaser CS13
occurred and Cuba was supported by its allies the US Armed Forces.
It was a tragic time for all sides as seamen lost their lives and ships
were sunk, but today we stand here before you as friends – Cubans, Americans
and Europeans.
When we –the GLOBAL OFFSHORE SAILING TEAM, in joint collaboration with
the ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND DISSEMINATION OF CUBAN NAVAL HISTORY, set sail
in March of this year into those same Cuban waters, we honoured all the brave
men and woman involved in this historic event. We did this both at sea and
during a ceremony at the Monument for Fallen in WWII in Havana, where we laid a
wreath and spoke the following words of the Chairman of the Channel Dash Association
and dear friend Peter Nixon:
‘Working so hard to bring history back to everyone’s attention and
recognising the many great acts of courage performed on our behalf by
men and women of all sides
during a period of conflict . It’s not about winners or looser. The World is a
wonderful place to live, because it’s made up of many different, but beautiful
countries. We should be proud of this fact. Equally, we should not be ashamed of
our past, nor should we glorify it, for it was our past which created what we
are today.’
I am delighted to be able, to bring to you, on this
day of commemoration, regards from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and
say: History is not forgotten. The following people wish to recognize this
event today and honor those who fought, have fallen and survived this conflict
and also express words of hope for the future of our peoples and countries.

MIAMI — The Coast Guard, the City of Miami and the
Association for Research and Dissemination of Cuban Naval History paid tribute
to WWII veterans who served in the American and Cuban armed forces Saturday.
The event commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the sinking of the Axis
Submarine U-176 by the Cuban sub chaser Caza Submarino 13 (CS-13) becoming the only non-American Allied ship to sink an
enemy U-boat in the Caribbean.
In the early years of WWII, Axis submarine activity was significantly
impacting vital Allied shipping including in the waters of South Florida and
the Caribbean. Substantial efforts were made to establish effective
counter-submarine tactics and, train and arm Allied navies to expand
anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The U.S. Navy Sub Chaser Training Center
(SCTC) was established here in Miami to provide that training in the waters of
Biscayne Bay; the pier next to the American Airlines Arena is the last of four
piers that existed during the war to support the Navy’s training efforts. In
Miami in March of 1943, ten 83-foot wooden patrol boats were transferred from
the U.S. Coast Guard to the Cuban Navy under the Lend-Lease Program to expand
Cuba’s capability to combat Axis U-Boat operations. One of these vessels, the
CG-83338, was renamed under Cuban service as the CS-13. On May 15th, 1943,
the CS-13 engaged and sank the German U-boat U-176, becoming the only
non-American Allied ship to sink an enemy U-boat in the Caribbean.

This will take place in Miami, Florida on May 16, 2015, date of the 72nd anniversary of confrontation in Cuban waters between the submarine hunter CS-13, commanded by Lieutenant Mario Ramirez Delgado, and the U-176, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Reiner Dierksen, which resulted in the sinking of the U-176.
Ceremony to Honor Our WWII USCG, U.S. Navy and Cuban Navy Veterans May 16, 2015 |
Purpose: The Association for Research and Dissemination of the Cuban Naval
History is organizing a tribute to honor our U.S. Naval and Cuban Veterans of
the Anti-Submarine Campaign in the Caribbean Sea during the Second World War.
This will take place in Miami, Florida on May 16, 2015, date of the 72nd anniversary of confrontation in Cuban waters between the submarine hunter CS-13, commanded by Lieutenant Mario Ramirez Delgado, and the U-176, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Reiner Dierksen, which resulted in the sinking of the U-176.
The Ceremony will be
held on Saturday May 16 at 11:00 AM at the Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan Amercian
Drive, Miami, Fla. in conjunction with
the City of Miami.
Diplomas of
Recognition will be delivered to cuban veterans and relatives of deceased
veterans, and to organizations and individuals who have excelled in the study,
research and diffusion of the Cuban Naval History.

LA BATALLA DE LA LOMA DE SAN JUAN
En enero de 2014, una representación de la AIC
(American Institute for Conservation of Historicals and Artist Work), llevó a
cabo un encuentro en la Ciudad de Santiago de Cuba con la finalidad de realizar
un recorrido por los centros histórico de la Isla de Cuba haciendo realidad el
inicio de un intercambio a nivel académico con especialistas de ambas naciones;
desde entonces dichos encuentros han venido realizándose de forma sistemática.
En aquella primera ocasión, uno de los miembros de lo que hoy constituye la
AIDHNC, Asociación para la Investigación y Difusión de la Historia Naval de
Cuba, fue designada por la AIC para que fungiera como experto en aquel
encuentro, se trata de la destacada especialista cubana, Dra. Raquel Carreras
Rivery, quien actualmente ocupa, además, la jefatura de la Sección de
Bioarqueología de la AIDHNC. Durante aquel importante encuentro, la Dra. Rivery
en coordinación con la Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad hizo la
presentación de su más reciente obra, “Alas cubanas sobre el Continente
Americano”, que recoge importantes aspectos sobre la aviación naval de la isla
caribeña.
Dentro del recorrido efectuado, fue fijado como un
objetivo de primera importancia la visita a la Loma de San Juan, lugar
que sirvió de escenario a uno de los enfrentamientos bélicos registrados
durante la denominada Guerra cubano-hispano-norteamericana, que desde el punto
de vista histórico alcanzó una gran relevancia en la historia de Cuba.

donde aparecen los monumentos erigidos a la memoria de los bandos contendientes
en una muestra d
e respeto y tributo a los combatientes cubanos (mambises),
españoles y norteamericanos que ofrendaron sus vidas en el cumplimiento de su

CONCLUYE CON ÉXITO EN CUBA LA EXPEDICIÓN "176 CUBAN SUB BATTLE"
La Expedición "176 Cuban Sub Battle" organizada por Global Offshore sailing Team con la colaboración de Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club, la Asociación para la Investigación y Difusión de la Historia Naval de Cuba, Dash Association, el Museo Marítimo Internacional de Hamburg, y Marina Militare. A pesar de no haber contado con el apoyo del Gobierno y las Instituciones cubanas, las que habían sido informadas oportunamente, la expedición se cumplió tal y como se había previsto. Tampoco se produjo cobertura periodística alguna por la parte cubanas, pero si, una gran colaboración por medio de sus habitantes.
Global Offshore Sailing Team estará presente en la Ceremonia de Homenaje a los Marinos Veteranos de la Guerra Anti-submarina librada durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial que se celebrará el 16 de mayo de este año en la Ciudad de Miami. Global Offshore será galardonado en esa ceremonia con el Diploma Ancla de Bronce que otorga la Asociación para la Investigación y Difusión de la Historia Naval de Cuba a las Instituciones o personalidades que se destacan en el estudio y protección del Patrimonio Naval y a mantener viva la memoria de los hechos acontecidos.
